Mechanical Engineer

Job Description

Summary/Objective

The Engineer provides design efforts from inception through production both in new product design and in existing product redesign.

Essential Functions

  1. Develop designs for equipment to fit within project parameters.
  2. Work with customers to finalize designs and approved drawings.
  3. Prepare preliminary design proposal(s).
  4. Responsible for defining and solving manufacturing/design issues and implementing production growth and/or projects that optimize existing production lines.
  5. Perform liaison function between engineering and all manufacturing operations for any related issues, problems or improvements.
  6. Prepare technical data such as qualification test procedures, acceptance test procedures, reports, component maintenance manuals, etc.
  7. Interact with vendors concerning parts they supply or propose to supply to company.
  8. Coordinate as required with internal groups including purchasing, quality control, sales, production, accounting personnel, metal finishing and assembly so projects are started and completed within the set timetable.
  9. Keep supervisor advised of work status, workload, problems and progress as related to work assignments.

Work Environment

The Engineer operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

While performing some duties of the Engineer, the employee is occasionally exposed to airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

While performing the duties of the Engineer, the employee is required to:

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This position regularly requires long hours and occasional weekend work.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree in engineering
    or
  2. A related discipline and two to three years of experience.
